Paper
“Earth Without People” by Alan Weisman, this short story
is about what would happen if there is no people in earth. It will be disaster
on earth, all the animals will be death, and plant.
Author used imagery as a many senses and meaning. In the
story, “Dazzling white squadrons of red-crowned cranes that glide over the
bulrushes in perfect formation, touching down so lightly that they detonate no
land mines.” This quote has touch and sight sense in one quote; the imagery in
this quote shows how sensitivity and how it looks. “New York’s architecture
isn’t as flammable as San Francisco’s clapboard Victorians.” This one has sight
or it can be a sound, the word “flammable” makes sentence more realistic. Another
example from story, “The invincible cockroach,” this quote has a sight; the
word “invincible” describe the cockroach, it gives readers more about that
subject.
Imagery
is 5 senses that makes following sentence more realistic, interest, explain,
and more detail about the subject. Also, reader can visualize a picture of what
author is try to describe. Either use imagery or not, that makes story huge
different even if it’s same story. So, imagery is very important for writing.
Imagery effect makes easy to understand the story or poem, symbol, and reader
can draw a picture on reader’s mind.
